Im 25 year old male. Im single, very out going and energetic and love going out. Im into fitness and sports

Ive been reading up and seems like Port Charlotte is not a place for me.... But there are some nice areas around it but I need help on which are the best for my style of living.

Fort Meyers is only a 30 min drive into Port Charlotte and im sure I could make it in 25.. would this meet my needs more? Cape Coral?

Try San Diego...or Austin....or Asheville....or Tempe....or Atlanta....or Fort Collins

Don't get me wrong... We love it here...but we're not 25...we're pretty fit, but going out starts at 6 and ends at 9:00. This is a great place if you're 60 with plenty of dough....25 and looking for action?....maybe not so much.

Well...read back through some of the many historical threads on this topic. If you're in a very narrow 25-something demographic, this area is great. If you're just "workin' for a livin'", you might be less disappointed somewhere else.!

Yeah I read around and a lot of people say its really for retirees and there is no real night life outside of the two colleges nearby (cant remember their names).

Im coming from a big city where there is a lot of nightlife (cleveland, ohio)

Are their any other areas close to Port Charlotte that you would recommend? Or are all the "20 somethings" on the southeast side of Florida.

Wife and I are mid-30s. Moved here (PC) in early 30s. We have a young child so we don't go out a whole lot, but there are several fun bars around with live music. If clubs are more your style, then maybe Ft Myers, but be aware, they are having a HUGE homicide and violent crime problem and it only seems to be getting worse.

Fort Myers couldn't even make it a week in the new year without a murder. If I were your age I would have picked the Tampa St.Pete or Miami area. They say this area has a young ave. age but I just don't see it. Maybe a lot of money helps. Just like the new 60 is 40 and then they try to date someone 30. I was born here and left a long time ago due to older age average and poor jobs. People that live around me here think I am young now at 54. Whats that tell you? It tells you that they are a lot older then me. I guess that is why they call Cape Coma.

You won't make the drive from Cape Coral / North Fort Myers to Port Charlotte in 25 minutes. I've done the drive for years. Whether you take US-41 or I-75, it just won't happen. Let's get that out of the way right off the bat.

Next, if you're used to a night life, nothing in Charlotte or Lee Counties will entice you. Fort Myers does have a couple bars/night clubs, a strip joint and a drum circle but it really only satisfies people who don't know what a real night life is. I grew up in Chicago so I can tell you that you'll know the difference, even from Cleveland. You'll need Tampa/St. Pete. Period. If you're insistent upon moving here, understand that your life will go slower. There are some young people here but they're vastly overwhelmed by the retired population. It's been my experience that a number of people who move here from the New England area aren't interested in being friends. They don't have the same midwest friendliness that you've grown accustomed to, so the young people you do meet might not even care that you breathe. If you are athletic, I suggest finding those activity groups immediately. For example, if you run, get in with runners. You'll have a much better shot at growing a social life in a reasonable amount of time.

For more culture, look north of Charlotte County. The City of Sarasota is flush with retirees and snowbirds but they take a lot of pride in the arts so there's always theater, art walks, concerts and plenty to see and do there along that vein.

Of course, you'll never go wrong with the beach. Venice is beautiful. Nokomis is a very cute area.

I guess you could always drive into Ybor City and make a weekend of it if you really miss partying. And don't forget to plan a trip to Key West. There are tons of ways Florida can spend your money.

Now, please let us know how you got a job in Port Charlotte. There's a lot of people out of work here who'd love to know your secret. lol

Oh Yeah I love the Venice night life. Down to the jetties at sunset with some ice cream. Sometimes we get really wild and have a sunday with nuts!
