Hi everyone, my husband is being transferred and I am looking to move to a nice neighborhood with good schools. And low crime. We are a very active family so I'd love an area with a lot of different activities and within a decent drive to a beach. Thanks in advance for your help!

If you could live in North Port, the schools there are much better than any in Port Charlotte and It would be a short drive to PC for work. Do your research heavily on schools before you move. If you end up in Charlotte County, but want to transfer to a Sarasota County school, depending on space availability, the transfer may be difficult.

There are A rated schools in Sarasota County and Charlotte County. What age are your kids (elementary, middle or high school)? You can go to the school web sites to learn about the schools. I was a teacher in both school districts.

As far as crime rates, the city of Sarasota has higher crime than North Port or Port Charlotte, but that is largely due to the fact that it is a much larger city. This area in general is not high crime. For crime statistics you should refer to the sheriff or police departments.

North Port is about 20-30 minutes to the beach. Port Charlotte is about 40-45 minutes to the beach. Both depending on where you would live. The closest beaches are in Venice and Englewood.

What type of activities are you looking for? Golf, beach, sports, theater, parks, recreation, etc?

Do you ave your choice of Charlotte county schools, or are you assigned to the closest one?

Are there any good private schools?

What schools would a resident of Grassy Point be assigned ?

Thanks for the help.

You can use this Charlotte County School web site to search for the schools located within a particular address. Charlotte County School Boundaries

When I look at the current MLS listings in Grassy Point there are different schools listed. They all say Peace River Elementary, but the middle and high school differ - some say Port Charlotte Middle, others say Punta Gorda Middle. Some say Port Charlotte High, others say Charlotte High.

Each year boundaries are under review for the start of the next school year depending on student enrollment. So, you may want to call the Transportation Department for exact information.
Transportation

If you do a Yahoo or Google search for Charlotte County Florida Private Schools - it will give you a list of private schools. You didn't say which age group you were looking for - elementary, middle or high school.
