I'm currently in Pensacola but researching areas further south. I've been to Punta Gorda and the areas ranging from Spring Hill to Clearwater to visit so far. I love the beaches here but I want more months out of the year to swim. Can you swim all year round in the Spring Hill area? If not how many months a year can you? I moved from PA and liked the idea of cooler weather in the winter, now that I've been through a winter here I realized that having a pool right out my kitchen window and a beach 20min away that I can't use month after month is driving me crazy! I don't want to go further south than the Venice area (which is #1 on my list right now) but wouldn't mind any locations ranging from Spring Hill down to Venice as long as it's warm enough to swim most months out of the year.

We lived just outside Spring Hill and found the pool a little chilly to use from Oct till April without a heater.

Grew up in Hernando County.
Swam year 'round.
Some days in the winter were too chilly to swim but the next day could be in the 90s.
The water in the rivers stays the same temp all the time (around 74 degrees) since they're spring fed. In other words...they're cold all the time!!!!

Most people cannot swim in Hernando County year round... Flem125 must be from Canada.

As for Spring Hill (which is in Hernando County), if you like your pool to be 80 degrees and higher, you are looking at swimming from May to September. However, how much sun/shade your pool gets makes a HUGE difference. A pool covered in shade most of the day, in Spring Hill, might get you swimming only 3 months out of the year... unless you are from Canada. Be sure to factor this in when looking for a house with a pool.

I'm in Punta Gorda and have friends who are in the Sprinh Hill area and based on the weather is saw there this year I don't think there is too much swimming going on.

Historically the winter temps are average High 72 and average lows 45 not my idea of swimming weather.

Yeah the weather in Pensacola has been awful this year also but I think it's been colder than normal everywhere. I'm leaning more towards the area between Sarasota and Venice. I'm hoping to get down there in the next couple months for another visit. I don't have to have all 12mths to swim but I'd like more months than May to September, I mean that's the months we were able to swim in PA, I definitely want more months than that.
