Today about Noon while on 41 South at Aqui Esta we saw two people on a full sized Harley Davidson with what appeared to be two training wheels to the left & right of the rear tire. It was a pretty sturdy contraption painted a matching color to the rest of the bike.

No it was not a three wheeler or one of the new 2 wheels in the front things.

I mention it in case anybody else sees it moving around the county. Obviously it was some type of customizing effort. But I have to wonder how it effects leaning the bike into turns.

I guess they have been available for a while. The set we saw looked like the ones on the left.

Trike Alternatives LLC | Ghost Wheels | Retract-a-trike

If you follow the link there is an informative vid that explains you can still lean into turns.

Rode bikes most all my life and never saw anything like this before.

I've seen a bolt-on package that just attaches to your existing cycle. It still uses the bikes original drive train; just adds stability whereas most true trikes have a rear axle (some independent rears, some solid axles). I would think it's probably a less expensive alternative to buying a true trike. Seen them on both Harleys and Goldwings. If you love your current bike and worry about stability I would think it would be an option worth checking into.

Base price for Ghost Wheels $5,495.00 and $150 shipping.

After reading the article and watching the video it made pretty good sense in some cases.

I was just surprised to see one on the road as had never even considered it before. Turns out they have been around for a while,

I've seen a few of them here and always wondered: Did the wife say "I won't go on that thing without training wheels", or did the rider become old/disabled and need the extra support on his favorite old bike? Either way, much cheaper than a trike conversion....but not even close to being as cool . I'll stick with 2 wheels for now, but if there ever becomes a day I need "training wheels" to keep riding so be it.

Trikes are VERY common down here. You'll see them on a daily basis. Most big bike manufacturers now offer them.
