I am looking for Doctors in the area and I guess I may be out of luck finding ones taking new patients.
Can anyone recommend some?
I did a search but most are from last year or later.
I am looking to go with Blue Cross of Fl., any better plans out there?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Clint

Our daughter has an individual policy with BlueCross/Blue Shield of Florida ( they call it Florida Blue now) and she's had no problems at all finding both primary docs and specialists in this area when she needed them. Seems to me that most of the docs, as well as the hospitals and outpatient centers are in the network for Florida Blue, so they charge the preferred rates and she pays applicable copays, deductibles and so on. And she's had some serious medical problems so she's certainly exercised that insurance policy, and had occasion to have to find specialists in the area.

She's (and we) have had excellent customer service from FLBlue, to timely paying of claims to providers, and help from them when there was a question or a problem.

My husband and I have Medicare with a secondary insurance ( from DH's employer, the federal guv'mint) from Blue Cross/Blue Shield and have had excellent service from them as well.

I know several people who also have Medicare, with a Florida Blue Medigap insurance, and they're happy with this combination as well.

So I'd heartily recommend any of the Florida Blue policies offered.

As for finding doctors who are taking new patients, you'll have more difficulty finding someone during snowbird season, as they tend to crowd all the medical facilities around the area, but you may find you'll have better luck if you're looking for someone outside the season- like now. I don't know if it makes a difference if you don't have insurance, but if you sign up for one of the BlueFlorida plans ( or probably any other insurance policy) you will have access to a list of "in network" providers, and this list will also indicate if the providers are accepting new patients. Of course when you pick a doctor, and call to make an appointment, you'd verify the coverage and they'd let you know if they're not taking new patients.

I know that was the case with my primary doctor- we moved to the area full time about 1.5 yrs ago, and I noted when I checked that she was NOT taking any new patients ( I checked in the peak of snowbird season, around February). So I waited till around mid-June, and noted in the same list that she was taking new patients.

Good luck with your search.

We have BSBS (Illinois-employer HQ located there). Never had any issues, with the exception of one physical therapy clinic didn't accept BCBS. Other than that, all has been fine. finding a good Dr, that's a whole 'nother issue..... Good luck with that!! It might be easier if people didn't waste the Dr's time with every sniffle or owie!

I have a doctor with Millenium Physician Group, check their website for who is accepting new patients.
They accept Florida Blue, including PPO and HMO and Medicare Advantage Plans through Florida Blue.
It can be confusing but most are very helpful. Welcome home

I go to a doctor in the Millenium group as well, and the last I checked that website- maybe a month or so ago, it looked like most of the physicians in the group were accepting new patients.

From what it looks like to me, they're more likely not to be accepting new patients during snowbird season.
