When I was still working as a Firefighter/Investigator I had several instances where people, usually immigrants from Africa using techniques that they used back home, would use gasoline in an attempt to kill the bed bugs (they say chemicals are extremely expensive or just not available there so they use gas which is readily available). They would spray their furniture with the gas. Sometimes the calls were for strong odors of gasoline inside but other times the vapors found an ignition source with explosive and fatal results.

While bed bugs are disgusting, think of the other critters that inhabit movie theatres like rats and mice. I never go to movies because it's just more comfortable to buy them and watch them at home. We also attempt to avoid a problem that I became aware of when I was teaching and the school held a class trip to the movies (much educational value there NOT). I actually saw rats running around in the theatre. Think about it, these places are dark and smell absolutely delicious with all the oil slathered popcorn and death on a plate chips dripping with some cheesy looking goo. What better for the rats?
