I learned here about the waste disposal facility on Kenilworth in PC, so just giving a thumbs up to the facility and Rock, the hazardous waste guy. Easy, no hassle disposal of old gas, oil, and the 12 old cans of paint the previous owner left in your garage.

I'm there with large scale yard debris at least every 6 weeks. Love that "dump" they call the waste transfer station.

I know what you mean Mike. One of my fondest memories is my uncle teaching me to shoot his .22 pistol when I was about 8, picking off rats at the dump. LOL if you tried that today. When we lived in MA 40 years ago, I kept my stove going all winter with stumps, limbs and oak pallets picked out of the dump.

My grandfather used to collect all the bicycles from the dump, bring them home, and cannibalize them to make working bikes out of the pieces. He'd then give them to the neighborhood kids. Nowadays he'd probably be arrested for "stealing" or trespassing or sued the first time a kid fell off one of them.

The trash trucks will also pick up some hazardous materials on their regular pick ups. When I change the oil in my cars I put the used oil in a clear container and stand it next to the trash can. The driver will pick it up and place it in a compartment in the truck for disposal; not just mix it with the trash. Here is a link to disposing of different hazardous wastes: Solid Waste

I guess the days of keeping the dust down by sprinkling used crankcase oil on the road have passed...
