Great article HR. I agree with you and the article on the issue of the internal components being mostly the same. We've been using Goodman for many years up here in Jersey and have had very few problems with the equipment. I think the warranty and the installer are probably more important than the brand you chose.

I found Builder Quality to often mean Good Quality but basic features.. No Frills until they were 2nd generation.

Closing this thread out, we went with Travis at Sunshine Air. Installed 2 new Trane 3-ton XR16's, great price, timely install. Trane is not one of their house brands, but was our preference, and they had no trouble getting them or installing them.

Follow-up: one of our new Trane units began to deteriorate, and by last Friday it was blowing "coolish" air. Travis sent out the guys who installed the unit, they diagnosed the problem, Travis drove to Ft Myers after dinner to get a part, the tech showed up first thing Sat AM, and an hour later we were back in business. Our previous AC guy wouldn't show up on a weekend. I think I've got the right guy now.
