The guy who painted the inside of our home did a good job and is a licensed contractor. His name is Rob. 941-380-2210. Good price, good job, he communicated well and completed project on time.

I just put an ad on Facebook and interviewed 150+ potential workers via the phone for an investor who is looking to do a remodel. I needed to put together a new team. 90% of the potential candidates did not make the cut to even come out to look at the home because they didn't have enough any tools for the job, they didn't have a drivers license, they weren't knowledgeable, etc. Out of the 10% that I chose to come out 5% didn't even show up and out of that bunch most didn't pan out for one reason or another.

I was offering $20/hr for them to work. I wont give out my top two here because I need them to be working on an investor home in the next week but I'll share my back up contacts. I have not personally used any of these people but I can say that they did sound good over the phone, they showed up at the correct time for the interview, they seemed to have their own tools, etc. So here goes:

Jay Weiss, 941-268-2354
Jean Ann & Company, 908-333-4433
Richard Faust, 941-764-6370
Jim Dresser, 941-412-7248
Rod, 941-408-1146
Jim, 941-626-6521

isn't this a sad indictment of the state of things down here.

I could write a book about experiences with 'workers' and people wouldn't believe half heck maybe all of it.

the all time best is the kitchen guy who butt dialed a friends wife whilst he was - shall we say 'looking after' a client....they got the whole thing on voicemail.

I have a guy coming down in the next 3-4 months from Michigan who not only is an amazingly skilled person but reliable honest and trustworthy. He is going to work for me on a new venture - we call it our Cottage Homes Collection(smaller but still quality houses) and I am getting very close to letting him set up a handyman service....

I'm not so sure that this is really a Florida thing with the skilled tradespeople. I know that in Dallas and Houston they have had contractors who would lure away workers from construction sites. I believe that this country has a serious lack of reliable and skilled tradespeople for a variety of reasons.
