I am looking for someone to come out and give my system a shot of freon. My AC works OK, but I think it could work a little better. If that doesn't improve it.......so be it.

Any recommendations ????

I recently sold my big can of r22 and the gauges. I used to use it to give my systems a shot with when needed, but sold it because my new A/C uses the newer refrigerant. The r22 sold for quite a bit more than I paid for it years ago. The new refrigerant is much cheaper since it's not facing a ban....

When I put the ad on craigslist for the r22 I had a million calls the first day at $250 for partially used 30lb (?) can. So, if I were you and just looking for a "shot" of freon, place a wanted ad on craigslist as many there must do that kind of work on the side. Find out what kind of freon you have first.

Don't overfill, that's worse than under-filled....and don't let any old shlub do the work, he will make it worse....but it's not rocket science either.

Thanks everyone. Couldn't be lucky enough just to need a charge. Went with Joe Casey @ Florida Air Works. Installed a 16 SEER unit and new air handler. $4000 installed.
The guys that installed it worked their butts off in the heat of the afternoon. They did a great job.
Where my old unit would run all night to get the temp down, now it only takes a few hours. Was hoping to spend a couple hundred........OH WELL !! ( aah, the joys of home ownership) My old unit was exactly 10 years old. I guess that's what they will last. The warranty is for 10 years for parts one year labor.
I would reccommend these guys.......and I am very hard to please !!!

Don't know the life expectancy of units but my 1989 condo on the Treasure Coast had the original unit in it when I just sold it and it still worked. 26 years old. My home in Punta Gorda has a 2004 unit in it, don't think I'll be as lucky.
