The amendment passed in the recent election to require 60% statewide approval for any new casinos. This will effectively kill casinos statewide for the foreseeable future.

There's a higher chance that voters would approve a casino versus the current state legislature. Especially since many seniors in Florida like casinos.

If there was a big enough campaign(money) spent on making the casino seem nice, like a fun clean resort with things to do, it might pass. Although statewide, it would cost a lot to market to all Floridians

Expect a massive expenditure from the Seminole Tribe against any casinos, because these are competition to their casinos. The Seminole Tribe has a massive lobby and massive campaign funds to push their agenda, to ensure their casinos don't get competition. They don't usually put their face with the campaign but instead would attack the new casino in other ways. This way they step back and reap the reward without getting mud on their face. They have done such campaigns before and are very successful at it.

We have a terrible gambling addiction problem in Montana (and alcohol and drugs). Virtual machines started popping up all over after our legislature passed a Video Poker Machine act in the 80s. Now we have casinos and pawn shops spread across our city and state in bars, restaurants, and gas stations. My husband and I have seen it ruin several lives and families. The state does receive a lot of tax revenue from the gambling but the social costs are high. I don't mind going to Vegas and playing a few machines on vacation but I sure don't like having them everywhere in my hometown. I would not want to see this happen in Florida.

How many jobs is the complex expected to create after its complete?

Might this be a good time to invest in rental properties?

It appears that Sunseeker and the county reached agreement on the harborwalk public easement:

Nice of them to include so many restrictions on the public easement: "... restrictions on the easements include: no bicycles, skateboards, skates, political rallies, picnicking, dogs off leash, portable chairs, loitering, sales, drunkeness, aggressive behavior, or fishing".
I guess at least we'll still get to walk on it starting 6 am. Of course who knows what time it will be closed? "Commissioners Joe Tiseo and Christopher Constance fought for adding language that would guarantee that the walkway would remain open at least as long as the neighboring county parks, which are open 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. In the end, they settled for wording that guaranteed 6 a.m. opening". That reminds me of the caddies pool party sign in the movie Caddy Shack!

No Loitering at the public easement of the waterfront harborwalk?

This will give carte blanch for authorities to throw out people if they sit around/stand around - which is what many people do at waterfront parks. They sit/stand and watch the sunset, they hang around and enjoy the view, relax, meet friends and talk. They can be thrown out for loitering when they do this. Since fishing isn't allowed and picknicking isn't allowed, I guess people will have to keep moving rather than stand/sit, else risk loitering.

Definition of loiter

1 : to delay an activity with idle stops and pauses

2a : to remain in an area for no obvious reason
