Wow, did you guys see this?
Allegiant Air to build Sunseeker Resort in Port Charlotte - News - Sarasota Herald-Tribune - Sarasota, FL

This looks amazing. I'm sure there are some negatives this will bring, like increased traffic.

But by and large, isn't this a good thing? Lots of new jobs and visitors, which has a very positive ripple effect.

This will sure put PC on the map as a tourist destination.

Thoughts?

nope, not for me..I wanted to move to a sleepy slow growth town and live on the outskirts close to all needed amenities (which I do)..more asphalt and concrete will eventually lead us down the same path as Houston's growth and ya see what's going on there..not to mention it's already crowded enough for me personally..I hope it falls through.

More traffic during the winter will be great. I am really tired of driving all the roads by myself. Hopefully they will also add a few more traffic lights and stop signs too.

Not a fan at all. Good luck trying to get into the few small restaurants around there. We moved from the east coast of florida to get away from sprawl like this to get a small town feel.

I don't envision Port Charlotte as a 'destination' city with such a complex. On a river? Punta Gorda, too cute to ruin.

Increase in revenue for Charlotte County will most probably win out over the concerns of the people....

My thinking and maybe I'm just a natural optimist, is this will cause more restaurants to open and to thrive. Looks like there will be restaurants and shops there too.

Time will tell I suppose.

I'm with you on that one. I always cringe when I see a new planned megalopolis gobbling up more natural waterfront with the plans of bringing throngs of humanity in to have their tax dollars and other assets extracted from them. And that's exactly what the politicians and real estate moguls with the dollar signs in their eyes see in all this "progress" in a so-called "blighted area".

I just hope I'm dead by the time the development creep gets this far up the Peace River.

I just don't want this area to turn into a Fort Myers in 10 years. We bought in sleepy Punta Gorda to escape the high rises and congestion of other areas. I never considered the area as a tourist attraction. The closest beach on a good day is about 40 minutes away, Englewood Beach. You can barely get a parking spot there now. Like you said, time will tell.

I can't believe they can squish that huge development into that area. It's pretty sad, imho.
