I will NEVER understand why human beings intentionally live in an area where 10' long lizards roam where they want and life threatening weather happens on a regular basis.

Has it ever occurred to you people that maybe you should move?

Please be careful and protect life above "stuff".

10' lizards? We're not talking about komodo dragons and Indonesia here. Besides, way to criticize people while they're in crisis mode. And if you find out where there isn't "life threatening weather", which I would guess includes hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes (ok...I realize that isn't "weather"), blizzards, flooding, heatwaves, etc. please let us know!

Why? Different strokes for different folks, right? You have decided to live in a hot and arid area, FL folks enjoy coastal living. Rest assured, most people aren't eaten by alligators and they don't deal with hurricanes every year let let alone on a regular basis. We have friends who live just north of Fort Myers, this is only about the third time they've evacuated in the 25 years they've lived there.

With my wife's previous job she talked with people all over the country. Sometimes they would ask, "Where do you live?". She always chuckled when she was talking to someone in Tornado Alley and, upon telling them she lived on the east coast, their reply was, "I could never live there! I'd be too scared of hurricanes! I'd rather deal with tornadoes!".
We'd look at each other and think, "At least with a hurricane we'd have days of notice whereas a tornado you're lucky to get a few minutes".
