Would be nice to be somewhere that everyone could view it. I know I am not the only one that refuses to join Facebook.

I just joined the FB group that Diane referenced, it is very active with about 2,600 members, lots of first hand reports with pictures and videos. Reports just a few minutes ago show how bad this issue is.

Some of the quotes from today and yesterday (07-23 / 7-24):

"We had a quick look at Englewood beach today and we were coughing within seconds of getting out of the car, so had to leave."

"Local beaches from Cape Coral Naples all the way to parts of siesta key area have been affected."

"Work on boca grande every day.The smell is revolting! I can't believe it is still this bad! I've never in my life seen or smelled water this bad!"

"Well.....calling the trip early from our home away from home......back to Chicago for us......and I thought our state had corruption......"

"It's so nasty today, my nose was watering despite my $40 respirator. Eye goggles would have been a very welcome addition this morning, the burning was nonstop."

"Active fish kill going on in the northern Cape Haze area now.....watching fish die in the canal behind my house....first time I actually saw it happening.....pretty sad.....mullet and sheepshead......schools of both trying to get out....."

I understand your reluctance to participate in FB - but the power of social media is undeniable. As FB returns to it's original mission statement of enabling friends and family to stay in-touch and groups to communicate across like topics it becomes a powerful tool to organize, communicate, share ideas and raise public knowledge. The FB ecosystem and community of participants is unparalleled.

This FB group is driving local and national media awareness and actively trying to involve elected officials at all levels.

Florida more corrupt than Chicago? Please! Comments like that are why people are reluctant to participate in those groups. If they would just stick to the facts more would want to participate.. It is a dam shame though what is happening.

As a relative new comer to Florida(18 months), I am learning that my new state has its own distinct flavor of corruption, and I’ll leave it at that.

As for Red Tide, it is criminal what has been permitted to happen. Call me a pessimist, but I think the damage is irreversible because the powers that be do not have the stomach to fight this battle. I sincerely hope I’m wrong, but I don’t think I am.

Criminal? Isn’t that a bit hyperbolic?

Irreversible? Really??? Again, hyperbolic.

Wrong? I think so.

Is the sky falling in your world, too?
