It's been my experience that with (any) ethnic food when the majority of customers are of that ethnicity, the food tends to be more authentic than if not. So many restaurants cater their menu to accommodate an "American pallet" and the result is quite often a watered-down version. Food trucks are a good suggestion, thanks.

If you got Mex food in Dallas, it was Tex Mex. If you had ventured West to Fort Worth, you might have gotten the real deal-but Uncle Julios doesn't count. Have had some decent Tex Mex at Lime Tequilas. Pastor nachos were dang good and generous. The place by the Wyvern isn't too bad-very good breakfast. Hot sauce down here isn't hot-I make my own as well as my own chorizo. The gringos down here don't like it hot and they seem to stress about the idea of spicy food. There's not even a tortillaria or carnicera down here in PC/PG. If you want truly authentic, you might venture up to Arcadia.

I would stop at the one on 7th just north of Thomas for their breakfast burrito. My #1 go-to was Comodore Guadalajara.

Get on Kings Highway and head North to Arcadia. There are a couple of real authentic Mexican restaurants there.

I want to eat where the gringo white AMERICAN people eat Mexican food.. And, I prefer the chefs that cook the Authentic FLO-MEX food to be gringo because they probably use lots of Florida grown avocados and limes from FLORIDA#1..
Because my gringo brothers and sisters are my neighbors here in Port Charlotte and I was hoping that my money would stay here in Charlotte County and not Mexico..

In Arcadia, try El Dorado Maya and/or Los Compadres. Both are small "mom & pop" type establishments, with EDM having some grocery and baked goods on offer.

Went out to Lime Tequilas again recently and it was consistently good. Tried the cerviche and had the pastor nachos. Asked the waitress and about hotter sauce and she brought out some from the back. And they had mariachis that were outstanding. Just so you know, mariachis are NOT a food item-they are musicians and they were very entertaining!

Would non-gringos in the area use avocados from Mexico or California?

I would think they would use the most affordable product, which would be Florida-grown.

Default Flo-grown?

You mean flo-grown like the stands on the side of the road at various places that are selling California oranges? That kind of flo-groan?

I remember them with fondness.

By the way Hidalgo's Crazy Tacos is a small storefront joint on 41 just off Conway next to Milan Market. Nice Zacatecos family run place, very friendly with a few tables, very authentic, they even serve barbacoa and consumé on weekends. If it's ambiance and cocktails you're looking for (or 100% gringo owned and operated) this isn't the place for you, however the food is spot-on. Provecho!
