I lived in PC for 15 years. Moved away in 05 but would like to move back. Exactly how bad is the job market on the PC area? I work for a Dr in the front office (not a nurse) and my husband is a certified pharmacy technician. We currently live in Tn but the job market is not great here either. I am loosing my job in Sept. I have read other posts on this site and there are alot of negative posts. But sometimes there are just alot of unhappy people out there that just see the glass half empty. I guess I am just looking for an honest, fair response without bashing PC. I was there for Charley and lived and worked through the clean up. I totally understand people's fustration with life. Thanks for your help.

If your in health care you'll have a better than average chance. Charlotte County is no longer the oldest county in the USA but it is ranked # 4.

The center for sight in Venice is looking for an A/R specialist. And there is a CVS being built on Venice Ave and Jacaranda. I know that is not PC but close.
good luck

Charlotte County is second in the state with an 8.6% unemployment rate. And those figures do not count the substantial number of long term unemployed people and others who do not collect unemployment benefits, etc.

Well, if you lived there for 15 yrs & just recently moved away. It's not like you've been away for 15 yrs.

Secure jobs.

PC is what it is & has it's good points & not so good points.

If you enjoyed living there, you will probably enjoy it again. You should know it well enough to know the area you would like & do the things you did for 15 years.

We lived in PG. Found PC to just be a little too rough around the edges. Things like the 7 day a week flea market/amusement park thing were sort of odd to us. Really don't care for TT/41. People like different things. For some, PC is heaven. For others, it's just not.

The real estate crash has hurt PC, though, and what you will come back to see are quite a lot of closed up businesses along with foreclosed homes. It's not a good time. I mean there are new fast food restaurants & some stores,so there be some things like that you didn't have before you moved.

Good luck. You have enough of a history with PC to know it & really have not been gone long. Hope things turn out good.

The unemployment rate tells part of the story. There are more layoffs coming in county employment and those people will be competing with you for jobs.
I don't think this is the time to move back unless you have a job guaranteed in writing.
If you do get a job it's a good time to buy although in 2009 prices will not be any higher and probably lower.

I would definitely secure a job before moving down here. Just to give you an idea. My office is on the Port Charlotte/North Port line. We needed to hire a closing agent to work with our team, so we put an ad up on Craigslist. Within a week we had over 50 applications-most of them were very well qualified. We were looking for someone who had very specific knowledge of certain real estate programs and several years experience and we got that many people applying.

I'm not saying it's all doom and gloom, I'm just saying that I would come down here with a job already secured.

You most definitely need to have a job lined up before coming down. As carbondated posted, unemployment #2 in the state. If your husband is still working, you might just try to find another job up there for awhile, and wait until the economy is better. This is one of the worst times in Florida that I have ever seen, and I think we have a ways to go before things get much better.

Good luck to you.

We left PC in April after my DH lost his job and was unable to find another one. We're in CT now, and we are attempting to sell our house in PC as a short sale. Things are bad there. If you don't have a job lined up, now is not the time.
