LA is approximately 45% Hispanic, which is why Spanish stations of one format or another have been either #1 in the nation's most closely-watched radio market, or consistently in the top 5 or top 10 for well over 20 years.

Take a peek at the ratings for 250+ markets at the industry website Radio-Info.com: Radio's Online Community.

The marketplace has spoken folks and conservative talk radio has won; the News-Talk format has been either first or second in total listeners for 20+ years.

Liberal talk radio used to do very well in some cities, although former liberal talkradio powerhouse KABC also had Dodgers baseball and the immortal Vin Scully mikeside, but times have change folks from 20-30+ years ago.

Additionally, tons of the current crop of talkradio powerhouses can be heard in 20-30+ states after nightfall, as well as 300+ miles from their base city during the day.

I have started my own left wing moderate talk show which is gaining steam. It airs on a College station and cable TV. I have been dubbed the Liberal Savage.

The problem here is the FCC controls everything on the radio. It's like we're listening to government approved radio and nothing else. I miss it when the stations were locally owned and operated....

Don't blame the FCC primarily, although they let it happen. Blame the big networks like Clear Chaneel which own all the stations.

You’re lucky if you can find 10% of the talk radio “anywhere” in the country that you are to be leaning to the left. The last several road trips around the western states from Montana to Arizona and in between were all rightwing radio broadcasts. AM talk radio is so heavy with rightwing you simply can’t get a balance of political views on anything to include the news. And don’t even get me started on FOX news stations.

Just turn the TV on for all kinds of left wing shows. But then, it would be nice to have Michael Savage and Rush at NPR

Don't like it, don't listen to it.

Oh yeah, that is right..........liberals are all for free speech..........as long as it is speech THEY agree with.

That means a moderator has put him in time-out.

Liberal talk radio used to be successful many years ago in many major markets, including here in Los Angeles.

It's just not around much because it doesn't draw listeners, while conservative talk-radio makes billions of dollars per year for the conglomerates which own the stations and the programming.

This edict from the FCC won't negatively impact Rush Limbaugh or any other talk radio host; his show and all of the others are carried on tons of radio stations which are at the top of the ratings in tons of markets of all sizes.
