Anyone have suggestions on some humorous radio shows like Car Talk? The subject matter of the show isn't that important.. just want something that's very light-hearted and funny.

There aren't many. NPR is news/interview-heavy.

"What Do You Know" and "Prairie Home Companion" have their humorous elements, but it's not the same kind of humor as Car Talk.

'Wait Wait Don't Tell Me" is hysterically funny.

"Live Wire" is available in a few cities: Live Wire! Radio |

Harry Shearer's "Le Show" is not on too many NPR stations, but is available as a podcast.

This is when I really really miss BBC Radio 4. I enjoy Wait Wait Don't Tell Me enormously and sometimes Car Talk too, but there just aren't enough fun radio programmes to listen to here. Radio 4 is absolutely BRILLIANT in that regard and it was very upsetting when I realised the website would only work sporadically when I'm at work .

I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue, Just A Minute and Loose Ends are just the best comedy shows on radio and Radio 4 has so much more!

I find most programs on NPR fairly humorous. The fact that they aren't supposed to be is irrelevant.

I don't know why conservatives feel the need to be so ugly all the time. Wait Wait, Don't Tell Me!

I don't know why some people assume that everything is politically motivated. Or why some feel the need to ridicule those whose opinions differ from their own.

Oh, well, there goes the myth that liberals are open-minded.

(pssssst: I'll let you in on a little secret; I'm not a conservative! Last I checked, conservatives didn't really listen to NPR anyway.)

What I find humourous about most NPR programs is the perfectly modulated monotone delivery of every single announcer regardless of subject matter. It's always the same. No excitement, no enthusiasm. When NPR announces the second coming of Christ it will be done in the same tone as a they use to give the time and temperature.

It has nothing to do with program content and political leanings.

Next time you post you might want to take a moment and remember what happens when you ass/u/me.

With Car Talk, it's hard to think of another show that compares closely because the "vibe of the show" came from their individual & distinctive personalities.

Other "smart yet funny" (my opinion) NPR programs:
As others have suggested, WWDTM(Wait Wait...) is humorous quiz-show recap of week's news.
From the PHC (Prairie Home) site, you can listen to segments of show, rather than whole thing (I personally don't like the show's music, but I adore the skits).
Also: Says You, the game show about words, can be quite amusing-not many NPR affiliates carry it.
