I used to work at a small radio station about 15 years ago that would play old shows after the news... Have Gun Will Travel, Fibber McGee and Molly and the Jack Benny Show. Jack Benny was always my favorite - especially the commercials that they would break into during some conversation.
Nothing satisfies like firing up a smooth Lucky!!

I wish I lived in the 30's and 40's. I hate my generation.

I bought a few CDs a few years ago of some of the old time radio programs. fun to listen to. Don't look back, you can have the best of both worlds now.

Don't forget the Lone Ranger & Tonto, the Cisco Kid, Gene Autry, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans etal.
We sat around the radio listening to all the mentioned above shows on Sat and Sun evenings. After dinner the whole family would gather around the radio, then off to bed.
Fibber McGee & Molly, Red Skelton, Jack Benny, Amos & Andy, Green Hornet and all the others, man I miss those simple easy going days. Aah, it's nice to dream.

I grew up in the 50's and 60's so we didn't get much of the radio "drama". I did work the 6 to midnight shift at our local radio station while I was in college in the early 70's. I was able to work on my homework while I was working, as long as the programming got on the air. Most of the time it was just switching back between 3 or 4 tapes. For about three months, we had a contract to carry replays of "The Shadow Knows", and "Green Hornet". I didn't really get to listen to the shows if I had homework, but it gave me a couple of half hour blocks where it was a continuous tape, with no interruptions. Now I try to listen to "A Prairie Home Companion" when I get a chance. It just doesn't happen as often as I would like.

Remember the closet in Fibber McGee's and Molly's house? And Clem Kadiddlelhopper, Freddy the Freeloader and his other 'friends' on Red Skelton? And then Red Skelton's 'Pledge of Allegiance? Now that should send goose bumps down your spine....

I remember my dad listening to Paul Harvey when I was a kid. I know he's not from the 30's or 40's, but does anyone else remember his radio show?

Paul Harvey is still on several stations in our area with a short show in the morning, a longer one around noon, and "The Rest of the Story" in the evening. Someone has been filling in a lot for him lately, and it's not his son like it usually was.
"...and now you know...the rest of the story."
