I mean like Death or Black Metal? I know there have been a few radio stations that have played like classic or Glam metal or even some thrash. But what about Death or Black Metal?

It seems like the hard, fast, extreme, darker metal music has only received air play on either college radio or these days on online radio. Has any regular radio station ever existed that played extreme or Black/Death metal at all?

yeah that is what I was thinking as well. I have only heard death/black metal on like College stations including a show I had. Maybe on lighter metal radio stations once a week for an hour and then online but thats it

WZZO in Allentown, Pa., although I think they've mellowed out over the years.

Back in the 80s when the Earth was cooling, the alternative rock station I listened to, WOXY-FM in Oxford, Ohio, had a Sunday night show called Massive Metal For The Masses. I'd listen to about 10 minutes of it, and I was done. LOL

Interesting. Here in Chicago there was a station WVVX that at night had a metal show. They played basic metal mostly but did throw in Death/ Black metal sometimes and had a two hour show once a week called the Thrash Attack which focused on Thrash, but did later become more death metal.

Some college radio stations have or used to have "heavy metal hour". That's probably your best bet today.

pretty much or a day dedicated to metal like a college I used to have a show at. Or online radio stations. Guess no mainstream radio station in America ever has. I am a bit surprised in other places though like Europe or somewhere there has not been a more mainstream station that played death or black metal

Did they? I have heard clips on youtube but its the same old basic rock. But they may have had a show on Sunday nights that payed metal. Some basic rock stations would set aside an hour a week to play metal. WVVX used to set aside two hours on Thursday nights for Thrash, Death, Black metal
