Maybe it's because so much radio listening is done in the car. Good drama requires more attention than music or talk.

I am only a little too youg to remember the old radio shows, but I LOVE them now. I listen every night on XM. I actually prefer these now to most TV shows. The detective shows are my favorites.

Some years ago, we were going to try to do a little 1 minute 'show' in between music sets, just to try to do something different. Management shot it down.

It doesn't make money, thats all there is really to it. There is a syndicated show I've heard on AM before, our local AM station used to carry it late at night and on the weekends until they went to syndicated oldies programming. I cant remember the name, though. There is also the XM option mentioned previously. Also, OTR.net and archive.org have thousands of old radio shows for download for free.

I used to listen to this some years ago when I work the 3:00-11:00 shift. It would be on a local AM station every Saturday night. Very enjoyable!

I have enjoyed GK also...now that he is retiring, not sure if there will be anything similar to replace that show.

No tv at my house so I do listen to the radio alot, more for music programs and news....wish my area had one of the stations mentioned a few posts back.... I would enjoy more radio programs.

My grandfather listened to radio shows every night (40 yrs ago)...while in bed....in the dark. You could hear him laughing from his bedroom....

Most people don't have enough imagination, or else they are spoiled by TV doing it all for them.

I have to wonder why broadcasters don't bring back some of the radio shows , or create new ones, that in time, would find a vast audience that can't , or don't want to, watch TV or other forms of video??

A radio show on the way to work, school, or just stop and listen is a real treat to be savored that few know about today.

Why not?
What the heck do you think an audio book is?
