Well, at 11 this morning we have to take our beautiful little Schnauzer to the vet and have him put to sleep. The poor boy just got cancer a few weeks ago and the end is here. He can hardly breath and although I don't want to take him I can't let him down now. He's only 8 years old and he has been a great friend. I will miss my little pal Rudy so all I can wish is RIP my friend.

I'm so sorry that you -- and Rudy -- are going through this. My heart is hurting for you.
This is likely one of the hardest things you'll ever do, but please realize that it's because of your strength that Rudy will not continue to suffer. You're giving him a gift, you really are, even though it's hard to wrap your head around such a thought.
I wish that I could go with you and hug you through it. I'll do that virtually, though.
Sorry to hear. Remember the good times and realize he doesn't need to suffer and, sadly, won't get better.
I went through a similiar thing a few times of course, just a few weeks ago my 12 yr old beagle out of the blue
Thankyou everyone for the kind words. I just got home from the Vet's. He went very peacefully and he has now returned from where he came from. It's so hard to say goodbye to a friend who gives so much and asks for so little. I truely believe that dogs are God's special gifts to us. They represent a character we can only wish we had.
Having said good bye to 3 dogs in 3 years I do understand how hard this is and what a sad day it is for you. As sad as each time was for me I do admit that there was relief mixed in with the sadness as I knew I was giving each dog a final gift of love by letting them go.Cancer sucks!
I think most of us here know the hurt so know you are not alone and if you need to talk about your sweet dog to help heal your heart this is a great place to do so. Take care.
I'm sorry for your loss. He will be waiting at the bridge for you.
I commend you on this statement "although I don't want to take him I can't let him down now"
That's what a true friend would do. Despite all the grief you are doing the right thing for your dog. I've known many people that go to extraordinary lengths to eek out a few more months of life out of a dog to avoid the inevitable grief of loss. In my opinion it isn't right to make a dog suffer to avoid your own personal grief.
Your final act to spare Rudy further pain is what a true friend would do. Rest in peace Rudy.
