I noticed my Rocky wasn't feeling well last week, took her to the vet and I was told she probably had a cancerous tumor on her spleen that had ruptured and she needed to either be put down or operate. I choose to operate, after the procedure the vet said she didn't find any bleeding and no tumors and all the tests came back negative for cancer, she had a transfusion and put on 3 antibiotics, I feel the vet was too hasty in operating it looks like a transfusion and antibiotics would have worked. Yesterday Rocky began going down hill fast, I rushed her to the vet and this guy said she had a leak in her intestines probably from the operation, I decided to go for it do whatever to save her but she passed before they could operate. She was the happiest dog I have ever had in the mornings she would yap and yip when I got up, she walked beside me with her head against my leg and when I would come home after the shortest period of time she would act like I had been gone for days she was so happy to see me. She was 105 pounds of pure love (German Shepherd) she loved everyone she met and even got between two dogs that were growling at each other to break them up, she was six years old and after I retired I spent every day with her. My heart is broken and it just isn't fair because if the vet would have taken the time for testing instead of jumping into an operation she would be fine. I'll miss her for the rest of my life.

This is so sad. I'm so sorry.

We've been near this situation ourselves. It can be very hard to find a topnotch vet. Even in one practice, one vet can be much better than another.

With two vets I passed the word to friends and other vets. One vet closed. The other was a larger practice and the vet was not working for them soon after.

Would you feel justified in suing the vet?

At any rate this is a horrible thing and so sad you are going though this. I'm picturing the two of you walking together.

.
I'm sure it would be justified but I'm just going to let them know how I feel about it and I'm getting a new Vet for my other dog.

So sorry you and pet had to experience this. It's hard enough to say goodby to our precious little pals.

We understand, us pet lovers....it's hard to let go. Hoping you'll have many fun memories...

((hug))

I can't believe what an impact this is having in our home, Rocky was a talker, we woke up and Rocky would start yipping and yapping she was just so happy we were up, I would walk over to where the leashes hang and here she goes again it's time to walk, her favorite time of every morning and over the last year and a half she had lost weight to her goal and looked awesome. I could leave for 15 minutes but when I got home you would think by her talking I had been gone forever.
When I got her as a puppy she was sick and I knew if I didn't get her she would probably die so I bought her and got her healthy, she wasn't affectionate she didn't like to sit by you or be petted, something seemed a little off. A few years passed and she started limping, she had a bump on one of her joints in her front leg, the vet said it was probably cancer and we made an appointment to see a specialist, it took a month to see him and as we waited one day she was sitting on the couch and I walked over and held her head, I kissed her on the top of her head and told her I would do anything to save her life, as I walked away she let out a little yip and when I looked at her something just clicked in her head and she got it, from that day on until she passed she just poured out the love to me and she didn't have cancer . Nothing is right, the house is to quiet, she's not laying on the couch, no waking up to her voice, no walks, she was what made our home a home and I never realized how terrible it would be without her here. I've expressed my displeasure with the Animal hospital and I'm waiting for their response and that is all I can do for my big puppy. I just need to vent with people who understand.

Default Goodbye to my friend

I asked the same questions over and over to management day after day and got the runaround, on the 10th day the Veterinarian wrote an email in third person which seemed strange to me, her email was filled with lies and blamed everyone from the other Veterinarians to me and my wife for Rocky's death, it was insulting to say the least but it did show her personality. They offered me a small portion of my money back and I denied and stopped any more communications with them, a few days later I received a email saying they had issued a check for the operation and sent Rocky's records with a don't ever come back ending, Hah like I would ever trust them again.
The money means little, it doesn't take away that Rocky died for no reason but the lies tell all and now I know the Veterinarian is part owner of the hospital. We had noticed that they seemed to run up the charges to soak you and they didn't do that until last year, my conclusion is that the Vet. saw an opportunity to make some money not thinking she would kill Rocky but she did.
I have turned in all my emails and records to the Veterinary medical board and they will investigate the Veterinarian.
If you use facebook look up Justice for Rocky girl and please sign the petition to investigate the Veterinarian,

Good. I hope it makes a difference. I'm glad you've taken to social media like FB. That's the only way to get any accountability in some cases. Having read all your posts I'm angry on your behalf for what appears to be greed as a motive on her part.

I guess one take away for future pets could be get a second opinion (without telling them that's what it is by the way.) I understand you were concerned for her so said, heck yeah, help her, save her. I'm sorry this happened. I don't know what else to say. It just takes time to get used to the new normal.

Good luck on any further interactions you might have with the vet or the practice over this.

I'm also very sorry for your loss Road dog. I am very lucky, my vet (dogs) was also my best friend, we met years ago through art works I did, and it blossomed into true friendship. Best vet around these parts, he sadly died a few years back. But having a good vet, as another poster mentioned; is key. So sorry yours turned out so badly.

Will keep you in my thoughts as you muster the strength to slowly move forward. I lost my Leo a few years back, it took me just over a year to think of replacing that love with another pup. Hope you and your family a bit of solace in this terrible time.
