Default Putting my baby to sleep

I'm not sure why I am writing this because there is nothing anyone can do. I had to put my baby of 17 years to sleep today. End stage renal failure---acute. He was so sick there was no doubt it was the right thing to do. My house is empty and I miss him so much already. He declined in a week very rapidly. Hadn't eaten or passed stool in a week as well. I had to do it and it really sucks. I have had him longer than my husband and kids. It feels like I lost one of my children (I think).

He was a Cameo Persian (mostly white with a Cameo/pink undercoat). Beautiful green eyes. I will miss him so much. We had so many adventures together. He traveled with me and went to the groomers every 8 weeks which he loved.

My mom donated money in his name to a shelter for homeless animals. I think everyone should do the same in memory of their pets and those who have recently been lost.

My heart goes out to all who have lost their pet.

May you rest in peace, OliverHans, my precious baby.

Catluvr - and may you find peace knowing your baby is in a place where he knows no pain. It is a commendable gesture to donate money to shelters in his name.

So sorry to hear of your loss, catluvr.
We lost our 15 year old cat to kidney failure in 1998. On a Friday or Saturday night she acted funny after jumping off the bed. She died Thursday morning. It was quick, she slept most of the time.
I wish I had been with her when she died, she did so much for me.
Great kitty, great friend, we still talk and think of her frequently.

A year later we adopted two shelter PTSD cats. They needed a gentle home. They've been with us almost 9 years, they're our Veterans Day cats. Partway through their time with us, my wife's Lab retriever came to join the family. She had kidney failure at 15 and went into seizure three years ago.
We carried her to the pet ER, they relieved her of her earthly coils. It was so sad, she is such a wonderful pooch. She was buds with the cats. I can't put into words the gratitude we have for all our wonderful pets/family. Past and present.

I'm so sorry, sweetie. You did a noble but hard thing; you made sure he didn't hurt any more even if it meant you would.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm so proud of your mom because she donated money in your cats name to a homeless shelter. It will help another kitty have a good life and you can feel good about that. 17 years is a LONG time for a cat. You can rest at night knowing you gave him the best life he could have ever had. You will see OliverHans in the future and he will be waiting for you like he never left...

I am so sorry for your loss. I have been where you are and feel for you. You did the right thing, loved your baby enough not to want it to suffer.

Be gentle with yourself. It takes time. (((Hugs)))

It is loosing a family member, someone who has been a BIG part of our lives. Mine are my "babies". The saddest part of bringing them into our lives is that we loose the far to soon. That is what nature intended so how I deal with it is love them as much as I can while they are here so when they go, they go knowing they were lived and cherished and I have the peace of heart that I gave them the best life possiable.

Find comfort in that you gave your baby the best life possiable and he left this world, knowing he was loved, adored and cherished. He will, someday, send you another to help fill the void his passing left in your heart.

(((((((HUGS))))))) May he play hard at Rainbow Bridge until you are reunited and can cross that bridge together.

Default Thanks

Thank you all for the kind words of wisdom. The weekend is so hard because he used to follow me everywhere and beg for Tuna whenever I'd go into the kitchen, beg for a hug when I fold clothes on the floor or the bed and snuggle with all of us in bed on Sat and Sun morning. There's no one to greet us with a meow and a good face nudge and the house is missing the 3rd child!

We all know he is in kitty heaven waiting for us because although I would love to sing in heaven someday and do nothing but hand out with friends and family, I have to have something else in heaven to do and since pets are heavenly to have around, I can't think of a better way to spend with eternity...with Ollie and millions of pets (since I can't do that in this lifetime).
