I wanted to add my little redheaded nephew to the rainbow bridge forum.
I'll tell you his story..... My brother was working at the office one day about 8 years ago and went outside for a smoke. He sees this bloody mangled up looking dog walking toward the office and goes up to him. He was in pretty bad shape. Him and 2 other coworkers gathered him up and took him to the vet. The vet said that he is a chow mix about 4 years old. Looks like he was tied up and tried to get loose. He had a collar but had broken the chain. He also had heartworms. The vet wanted to put him to sleep but my brother and 2 of his coworkers agreed to pay for the surgery he had to have, medications, vet bills, etc. to give him a chance. When Shaggy was well enough to leave the vet's office, my brother took him in and has cared for him for 8 years. I moved to Texas about 6 years ago and lived at my brothers house for several months and got close to all 3 of his dogs, Shaggy, Chica (who was put to sleep last year) and Logan. We're now staying with my brother for a while until things are settled on our house, which they are settled now and we'll be leaving here in a couple of weeks. Anyway, Shaggy got cancer last year. It was inoperable so the option was to put him on some meds and see how he does. He was doing fine up until a couple of weeks ago. The vet put him on more meds and said that if that didn't work, that Shaggy needed to be put to sleep. About a week and a half ago, he stopped eating, no matter what I did. He was laying on the rug on Sunday June 1st for several hours. I layed on the floor beside him and talked to him and petted him as he was taking his last breath. He seemed to die peacefully. I feel good that I was here to be with Shaggy as he passed on. (My brother was out of state) I also feel good that Shaggy had a good life with my brother and he was such a precious dog and so sweet. I do miss him being around here though but am happy that he's romping around now with the other dogs/pets/animals. Sorry this is so long but my fingers kept on and I feel better telling Shaggys story and what he was all about. ![]() |

Shaggy was a lucky dog, and remember, a dog is a loan, and loans must be repaid.
When you see him again, he'll tell you he had no complaints. |

First of all, God bless your family for being so kind to our friends...
Also, remember you will meet Shaggy at the rainbow bridge as we will all meet our loved ones who are waiting for us there, one day. Shaggy was lucky to have you. I lost 2 Maltese in the last 2 years to cancer. They were rescued from puppy mills and I always felt fortunate for having them and being able to share wonderful moments. We gave and received many things from each other, and my family never left them. Pray that Shaggy is happy now, and believe you will be together one day. Remember you gave him the opportunity of being loved and taken care of during many years, and he will always remember you dearly.![]() |
