Deb, it isn't unusual to have a special soul mate in a dog. That was my Nugget. I had two other dogs at the time, but she was the one that reached into my heart and owned it. I love my other two of course, there just wasn't the same connection. And your other dog, sometimes it happens that they begin to sense a void, and strangely, step in to help fill it. ((((((((hugs deb)))))))))

I am so sorry for your loss...I understand the pain you feel, I felt the same when my soulmate (a cat named Humphrey) crossed over back in September. It was like the whole world had come apart. Please know you are not alone...and we are sending healing energy your way.

Same goes for me when I lost Elvis in October. He was the canine love of my life and always will be. I love my other 2 dogs tons, but there was just some type of special bond with Elvis that I cant even begin to explain, but I'm positive that you and many others here totally understand what I'm saying.

Letting go of my best friend
I am sitting here right now holding on to the last few moments I have left with my best friend for the last 18 years he is laying here looking at me and is still purring he can't stand up but its like he doesn't want to leave me. I am not wanting to let him go. my mom wants me to put him to sleep but he doesn't seem to be in pain it is just his time and i feel i should let him go on his on. If i have to lay here with him all night i will . We have so many memories together . My best friend give him to me after my Dads suicide. Now I am gonna be lost with out him. Good Bye Little my old friend I will see you again one day.

Is your friend ill with something, that you're mom is saying it's time to help him leave this life? My heart aches, knowing how difficult that decision is to make and carry out. I've been there and I pray that you find the strength to help your best friend. He sure is a beauty!

NeNe, it is heartbreaking for sure, and one of the hardest decisions you'll ever have to make. He is just beautiful in that picture, what a joy. We have all experienced this pain, and you will get through it slowly. He gave you all of those years, and you gave him love in return. You can't ask for a better life. I wish you comfort and strength right now. ((((((((((hugs NeNe and old friend))))))))

Nene, when I read your post this song immediately came to mind. I thought about you & your best friend laying down together. While it is "sweet sorrow" for you, it is a great comfort for him, to be able to feel you and smell you as he passes on. Which ever way you choose, you are by his side.
With the greatest of apologies to Woody Guthrie, I've changed the words somewhat. Maybe you know the song or the melody?
From this valley they say you are going
I will miss your bright eyes and sweet smile
For they say you are taking the sunshine
That has brightened my pathways awhile
Come and lay by my side, if you love me
Do not hasten to bid me adieu
Just remember our time together
And the friend who loved you so true.
Peace to all - everyone, everyone - who have lost their dear critters.
