It's almost been a year ....
October 10th will be one year since my little guy, Elvis is gone, which also happens to be my birthday. I think that makes it twice as traumatic for me. I miss him as much as ever
RIP little buddy. You're always in my heart <3

Goldnstar, I'm sending you virtual hugs. I know how hard that day will be, as my own sad 1st is coming up at the end of November, and I am already dreading it. I don't know how to deal, whether it is better to let the memories come, painful as they are, or to busy oneself with other things to try not to feel it. I honestly don't know. I wish you the best, and know that you can come here to share of course.

What a handsome little feller! I am sorry about your loss. I am sure there are tons of great memories you shared with Elvis. Lean on them during the tough days ahead. We will all share in your pain.

Is there something you can do to celebrate what Elvis like to do on your birthday?

Goldnstar,
Thanks for sharing your honest feelings with us. It has to be hard to have the anniversary be on your birthday. But, maybe Elvis wanted it that way. Instead of feeling as traumatized this year, think about what Elvis would have wanted. Any chance he thought you may forget him? If so, by leaving on your bday was HIS way to make sure you will never forget him.
I'm not sure how old Elvis was when you lost him last year. Any prior memories of your birthdays shared with Elvis you enjoy remembering? Maybe there is something you can plan for your birthday that would be a way to celebrate Elvis in a manner he would like.
He is a cutie. Hope you have lots of pics. I think Elvis would like it if you did something to honor his memory on your shared date in Oct. Ironically, that is an anniversary for me too, but not about a pet. Oct. 10 is a day I celebrate every year - as it was the day I came as close to dying as I will ever come without crossing over.
Know I will be thinking of you on Oct. 10. Take care or yourself as the day grows closer. The amazing people at CDF will help support you through that day. Who cares if you cry. Crying is part of the healing process.
Wishing you the best on Oct. 10 and hoping you'll find something special to do that Elvis would have liked to do that day.

Thank you everyone, for your hugs and kind words. It helps so much. (((hugs back to you all)))
3chidogs, I remembered that the dreaded anniversary is coming up for you as well. I will keep you in my thoughts.
MSR, Elvis was 15 years old when he passed. We had him since he was 3 months old, so yes lots and lots of memories. Funny you should mention what you did about him passing on my birthday. My mother said the same thing to me the day he died. "That little stinker was not going to let you forget him ever!"
He was a funny little character and everyone knew he was the canine love of my life. I do have 2 other dogs, one of which is Elvis' brother, Teddy.. who is 15 as well and a 1 year old Maltese, Randy. As much as I adore these other little guys.. I had more of a bond with Elvis. He was always at my side or on my lap and sometimes even loved to be cuddled inside of my zipped up hoodie.
Gosh I'm bawling just typing about him. I'm not sure if thats a good thing or not. I miss him so much
I'm so sorry for what you have also been through on this shared date. My heart goes out to you.
xoxo

Oct. 8 will mark four years since my little Rosie, a 3 year old Yorkie, died a tragic death. She broke her neck and I held her in my arms while she died. The last thing she did was wink at me before she finally closed her eyes for the last time. I told her over and over that I loved her dearly and thanked her for being my baby.
Although her life was short, I would not do a thing differently since each day was spent letting her know she was the star of the house. So many good memories of a little girl that taught us how to love unconditionally. Never learned that from a human!
I guess we can all lean on each other for support during the first part of October.

That's a beautiful pic.! I know exactly the sadness you are feeling, as Sept. 18th marked the 1 year anniversary of a beloved cat's passing...I was a wreck all day and night, and am still sad (but not such a wreck anymore)...hang in there, I know it's so hard to keep your chin up in times like these...hugs to you!

Goldnstar,
I wrote your anniversary on my calendar, as this day is also an anniversary for me, as I wrote earlier.
How are you doing? Have you been able to spend any time today thinking about Elvis? If he were here today and could spend one hour with you, what would he want to do?
Anniversaries can be hard; they can also be very nurturing and healing. I hope you are able to do something today that would remind you of the happy days you had with Elvis.
I also hope it helps to know others are thinking of you. While we cannot take away your pain, it helps to just know others care.
I look forward to your next post of how you made today special remembering your little guy.
Sending your cyberhugs ~ ~
