Default A letter to God from a little girl who's dog died

Joy read this on The View last week... I tivo'd it so I could write it down for my daughter. Our little dog died a few months ago, he was with my D her entire life, was her best friend, and her first big loss.

The little girl dictates this to her mom, and they send it off....

Dear God

Would you please take care of my dog Abby, she died yesterday and is with you in Heaven. I miss her very much. I'm happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick. I hope you'll play with her. She likes to play ball and swim. I'm sending a picture of her so when you see her you will know she is my dog.

Love, Merideth

A few weeks later, she got a letter back in the mail (presumed from a postal employee)

Dear Merideth,

Abby arrived safely in Heaven. Abby isn't sick anymore, her spirit is here with me, just like it stays in your heart. Abby loved being your dog. What a wonderful mother you have, I picked her especially for you. I send my blessings everyday, and remember that I love you very much. By the way, I am easy to find, I am wherever you find love.

God

Have you seen the picture that goes with the letter? Will tug at your heartstrings for sure. The most adorable little blonde headed girl with her arms around her Abbey, a black lab. I use to have the pic....I will search for it.

Edit:

I found the snopes version....but they've deleted the pic!

OK, that made me cry really hard. It was beautiful. And bless that awesome postal worker who responded with such compassion and wisdom to a little girl's heart-broken letter. There are indeed some good people in this world.

That really tugs at one's heartstrings. It's so tender and beautiful. The postmaster here in town had copied that letter and taped it to the front door of the Post Office. Still makes me smile....it's always a welcome thing to read. Thanks.

I once wrote a letter to Snoopy & got it back unopened. I still have it - I opened it & saved it.

I'm not sure it it's really kosher to open undeliverable mail if there's a return address.... I guess the little girl didn't mind though...

When my children were little, I wrote them notes from the Tooth Fairy & put little drawings & prose that I saved. They have happy memories of the Tooth Fairy!

That was so beautiful and touching and I commend that little girl for being so wise and faithful.

When my nephew had to put their dog to sleep his parents were there with him. His mom is a nurse and after they gave the dog the pre-sedative before the final injection he turned to his mother with tearful eye and said to her "You're a nurse you save people all the time can't you do anything to save him?" I think I would have crumbled right then and there

What a darling little girl. So sad about her dog and the letter is precious. Thanks for posting the link.
