Thinking of visiting Raleigh, Durham, Wilmington and coastal area anywhere between July 25 through August 12 - thinking of moving there and want to visit as many areas as we can to narrow our search for a new home. Any suggestions on areas to avoid or to definitely visit? Anything happening at that time we should take in? we want to be able to walk, bicycle, motorcycle and have a relaxing friendly peaceful area to live. We are middle aged couple with simple tastes. Appreciate any advice or suggestions! Thank you!!

Well, the two areas you listed are very different (Raleigh/Durham and coastal). We lived in Wilmington for years and would go back in a heartbeat. But job transferred us here....for now. The coast is very laid back, friendly and, of course, you have the beaches! If living near the water is a big draw for you, you can't do much better than Wilmington! As a couple in our late 40s, we would definitely choose it over this area.

Depends on what you really want and job needs. I regret not moving to the coast when I first moved here. Charlotte is nice in parts too. Not much to see between here and there (both directions). Wilmington is nice. So is Asheville if you like the mtns.

Glad I read this. I moved to Raleigh area almost 2 years ago. While its nice, its very crowded and not the laid back atmosphere I had living in coastal Maine. We are thinking of the Wilmington area within the next 2 years as my husband could easily transfer with his company.
