My wedding band is a really, really thin circle (both in depth and width) and it's still a perfect circle after 12 years of constant wear on a left-handed person. It has taken ALL KINDS of abuse and hasn't bent in any way at all.

I'd add a photo if I had a clue how to upload one

Just wanted to follow up and thank those who responded (with real opinions). Some of you commented that you wanted to know what I decided. Well, I got my ring today - went with platinum and love love love it. In the end, I decided that I liked the look of platinum - new and worn - better. I actually had several friends who had a platinum engagement ring and white gold band (or vice versa) and it was really helpful to compare that way. I think white gold would be a great choice in many circumstances though. We went to Diamonds Direct and had a really good experience there - good service, willing to negotiate and quick turnaround on changing my diamonds out into the new setting.
