Where do you live now?

Just west of Carrboro, NC, though my address says Chapel Hill

Where have you lived before?

Norfolk, VA (born)
Virginia Beach, VA
Richmond, VA
Missoula, MT
Bozeman, MT
Yellowstone National Park, WY
Charlotte, VT
Chatham County, NC
Raleigh, NC
Apex, NC
Durham, NC
Chapel Hill/Carrboro area

What was your favorite place to live?

Hmm.. for the sheer experience of it, I'd have to say Yellowstone National Park. I lived and worked in the park and it was one of the most fabulous experiences of my life. And I'm very happy where I live now. There has been something wonderful about every place I've ever lived.

What was your least favorites place to live?

Weeeelll... I hate to say this about my hometown, but I'd have to say Norfolk, if only because so many of us tend to take our home towns for granted and try to leave as fast as humanly possible. The Tidewater area has a very special place in my heart, but as a fairly liberal, artsy, academia type, I never felt I really fit in when I lived in Norfolk, which is so military oriented and rather conservative. This area is such a good fit for me. Some areas that are heavily "research", university oriented can come off as stuffy and maybe even a tad pretentious. There is such a wonderful mix of down home "old" Carolina and modern, new, research/education, high tech, "new" Carolina in the Triangle area that I feel our culture here is bright without being pretentious. You can eat hush puppies and BBQ during your lunch break at a high tech company in RTP.

Where do you live now?

Downtown Raleigh

Where have you lived before?

Gainesville, FL
Lexington, VA
around the Pacific Northwest
Hendersonville, NC
Mountain Home, NC
Pisgah National Forest, NC
Asheville, NC
Boone, NC

Favorite Place?

I'd have to say the North Cascades in WA state...backpacked around there for three solid months a few years ago. I count Pisgah National Forest as well because I slept on the ground 2-3 weeks out of the month for a year (worked as a backpacking guide). Boone is up there too (met my wife there...).

Least Favorite?

Wouldn't say I have a least favorite, but I do miss the mountains and dislike the heat of Raleigh (also why I moved away from FL as soon as I graduated high school).

Where do I live now? Miami Beach and Downtown Raleigh

Where have I lived?
-Corvallis, Oregon
-Monmouth, Oregon
-San Jose, California
-Los Gatos, California
-Raleigh, North Carolina
-Houston, Texas
-Miami Beach, Florida

Where's my favorite place to live?
I love my current life between Miami Beach (primary home) and Downtown Raleigh (secondary home)

Where was my least favorite place to live?
This is no contest: Houston, Texas. I only stayed 4 months. I just didn't like it. I loved the restaurants but hated living in a barbed wire surrounded apartment complex (in a good section of town) and the months and months of extreme heat. Imagine the recent Raleigh heat wave for 3-4 straight months. The lack of city planning/zoning and the extreme sprawling nature of most of the Houston metro also turned me off. I haven't been there in several years...perhaps it's improving?

Where do you live now?
Maryland City, MD

Where have you lived before?
Philadelphia, PA
Idaho Falls, ID
San Diego, CA
Huntington Beach, CA
Annapolis, MD
Virginia Beach, VA
Chapel Hill, NC
London, England
Auckland, New Zealand
Charlottesville, VA
Charlotte, NC
Sydney, Australia
Silver Spring, MD
North Bethesda, MD
Maryland City, MD

What was your favorite place to live?
Sydney, Australia, by far! But for the fact that it takes a whole day of flying to get home to family on the East Coast, I'd live there in a heartbeat! Second would be Chapel Hill I went to college there and absolutely loved the town and campus! That's why I want to get back to the area!

What was your least favorites place to live?
That's a tough one! I'm a bit disenchanted with MD right now, so really any of the last three MD cities. You can't have a decent commute, live in a decent house, and not sell your soul to the devil to pay for it all in this area! Hence, why we need to get out of here!!! (Annapolis is really nice, though, although there, too, it's a tough commute to DC and the houses cost $$$)

Funny you mention the Planning/Zoning. My dad (He's a Realtor) is from Houston and when visiting here yesterday he mentioned the weird Zoning (60 y/o bungalows next to nice new HUGE home neighborhoods). He said it reminded him of Houston (when he lived there a long time ago)...lol. I told him the Zoning is a little weird, but would probably "catch up" in the years to come, even though we live in NW Raleigh close to the airport. Growing up in NoVA I always thought the planning/zoning there was messed up, but it's much better then Houston I'm sure and I know it's not as bad as Raleigh. I LOVE Raleigh though.

Pittsfield, MA. Yuck.
I went to school in North Adams so I can relate here! I am originally from just outside of Boston and love the city, but there is just nothing appealing about Western, MA to me.
