I am a transplant from out west, and I'm looking for a place to get a tri-tip roast in the Cary/Apex/Holly Springs/Fuquay Varina area. This makes the best smoked sirloin!

Out west the tri-tip is very common, you can get it at almost any grocery store. Here, I have stopped by and called Harris Teeter, Lowes Foods, Kroger, Food Lion and noone carries it. The Meat House in Cary has it, but it's $9 a pound! Thats an outrageous price! It should be half that.

So, does any one know where I can get tri-tip roast around?

Thanks for any help!

Matt

I've heard of it from a friend, but have no idea what cut it is! Do you? Mite be called something else in the South, if you could ID the portion of the beast it comes from.

Also, is it maybe at Costco?

I've seen it at CostCo the last couple times we've been there and Whole Foods usually carries it too. Not that it will be less than $9 a pound though. We have one ready to grill tomorrow.

Trader Joe's has them, either seasoned (Santa Maria-style) or plain.

I found one at Trader Joes. You were right, they had marinated and non-marinated.I got the non marinated, smoking it up tonight!

I will check out Costco too. Too bad they don't have one in south Raleigh, Cary, or the Garner area. They are way up north from where I live.

Thanks for all the help!
