what this demonstrates that the Triangle is not immune from the general economic situation as many people seem to think. Just yesterday Ceridian anounced that they plan to shut their Morrisville operation with the loss of most of the 190 jobs. It seems that every week there is a similar anouncement which offsets any good news of companies transferring operations to the Triangle.
I keep saying it ... my company (a pretty good-sized tech company) has had a round of layoffs every quarter for the last year and there is no end in sight. The economy sucks here -- just like it does everywhere.
Actually, year over year comparison, June, '10 to June '09, according to the Triangle Business Journal,unemployment is DOWN nearly 10% in the Triangle, from 9.1% to 8.2%, with 13,000 more jobs.
"The Triangle’s unemployment rate was up slightly from 8.0 percent in May, but because the ESC does not adjust local rates for seasonal factors such as summer jobs, month-to-month comparisons are not terribly telling."
