that means 33 weekly return flights from RDU disapear from 7th September
also the RDU to JFK flights will be reduced from 6 x daily to 4. Bad news for the Triangle that AA has decided not to compete with Jet Blue on a number of routes like these major East Coast destinations.
it will impact RDU airport charges as well as their costs are relatively fixed and they will no doubt increase their charges as a consequence. AA and Jet Blue entered into an 'arrangement' on a number of routes late last year and this obviously is the next step in extending that arrangement. It will be interesting if any further routes are eliminated by AA going forward. Maybe they will eliminate all the American Eagle routes with 39 seater aircraft (like Boston) and just leave the Dallas and Chicago 'hub' routes? let's hope the London flight doesn't get the chop as well.

6x daily for JFK always struck me as excessive. Can there be that much demand for international connections out of JFK to justify so many flights? I can't imagine that JFK is a major destination airport in itself...
The true barometer will be whether Laguardia flights are affected. I would hate to see a decrease in service on that route.
I looked into the London route when I had to travel there last month, but in all honesty, who wants to arrive in London at 7.00am when there are so many options to get there in late morning or early afternoon (or even mid-late evening from New York and Boston)? I'd rather have a connection and a decent arrival time.
JFK is NY's major international airport hub. Southwest still flies there (route opened last year) Frankly, having traveled extensively on many airlines - I can't fathom why anyone would fly any other domestic airline! (unless the city isn't served by them)

I haven't flown on Southwest yet, but my boyfriend loves flying straight into Midway on Southwest. I hear their employees love their job more so than the other airlines too.
Jet Blue is non-stop I believe... SW to Boston might stop in BWI unfortunately (although I think there are a couple of non-stop flights on SW to Boston)

The idea is you sleep overnight on the plane so you don't have jetlag when you wake up in Europe.
If American has entered into an agreement with Jet Blue, it seems logical that part of that agreement was not to compete. Frankly, I don't care how they slice it as long as I get AAdvantage miles for Jet Blue flights to Boston.
Flying to Hubs (Dallas, Chicago, Miami, JFK) is the airline's strategy in all locations. The other routes that demand service like LaGuardia probably make more sense to American than routes like Boston. The agreement with Jet Blue sounds an awful lot like the one they had with Midway. I wouldn't be surprised to see this agreement expand in the future. Codesharing with airlines that can pull folks into their major and minor hubs is an effective way to drive more business.
the currrent agreement is not a codeshare but an 'interline' agreement so you won't get AAdvantage Miles - unless of course Jet Blue joins the One World Alliance, or a Codeshare is put in place.

Why would you think that? You think people only use JFK for international flights? You might wanna check that...
