We moved here from Garden Grove, CA and our property tax is about the same rate..1.164 in Holly Springs. Of course, in CA, we were never reassessed, so if you bought a 150k house 10 yrs ago and now its worth $1mil, it doesn't matter to you because your assessed value can only go up 1% per yr. I do miss that....

Actually I think you may have missed the point. To assume everybody moved here for the same reason (ie cost of living) is naive. If that is the only reason you did, then well that is just too bad. People move here for all kinds of reasons. And asking what you paid there vs here without getting into personal specifics makes any discussion about mortgages of very little use.

I agree forums are fun for good and silly posts alike. This one being the latter of the two!

We're from northern NJ.

Let's put it this way. We have twice the house for half the price, half the mortgage and ONE SEVENTH the taxes! But it's not the whole story. That's private.
