I don't know who to recommend but I can tell you who to stay away from - Mariana Italian Cleaning last out of Durham. Husband and wife business with reasonable prices. About 6 months in my wife's diamond earrings get "lost" on the day of cleaning. They claim they don't know anything and tell me if their insurance won't pay up I'm S**t out of luck take them to court. Of course I can't prove this- no video cameras in the house- so insurance doesn't pay.
This company is bonded and insured which means nothing as I found out because neither the insurance or bond will pay unless an arrest is made.
With respect to valuable jewelry, it's best to have an "all perils" policy - something standard homeowners insurance doesn't offer. An all perils policy insures against theft, loss or damage - so something that "disappears" around the time of a house cleaning would be covered.
^^^ So here's my experience with a jewelry policy. A well known, bonded & insured cleaning company stole 2 rings from my house. (dad2jules is right -- that means NOTHING.) Cleaning company refused to do anything because I had no proof. Police said I could file a report, but they wouldn't do anything because I had no proof. I searched local pawn shops and left pics & appraisal descriptions. Nothing. So I finally filed a claim with my insurance company. They paid and then, when my policy was up for renewal, they JACKED UP my deductible and increased my premium. It was a wash for me, financially. I was still screwed.
The lesson I learned is that unless a particular piece is worth a LOT of money, it's really not worth getting the insurance.
It was important for my wife and I to find a cleaning service that would use non-toxic cleaners that were safe for our children and 2 dogs, so we found a local cleaning co. called squeaky green cleaning. They are based out of Durham, but I believe they serve the entire triangle area. Their prices are really reasonable too...I was surprised. Anna, the owner, has been great. She actually cleans our home. Their website is squeakygreencleaning dot com.
We have an excellent cleaning service and I am not generous with cleaning company compliments. The company we use is privately owned by a woman who has 3-5 girls working for her. She moves them around in teams depending on the schedule of the day. Our house is 5 bedrooms, 4000 sq. feet, 4 kids, 3 cats. Cleaners are here every two weeks. She quoted us $165. I pay her $180. They change linens on all the beds and fold any laundry I have sitting around in laundry baskets. We are in No. Raleigh but I know she cleans in a broad area.
We have 3400 sq ft, 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, and pay $120 for every other week, $85 for every week. We had previously used Tidy Maids, who charged $111 every other week. As other people mentioned, the first few cleanings were great and then it went downhill very quickly. The woman we use now has her own little business and does a great job every time. I do provide cleaning supplies and equipment, but I'd be doing that anyway so it's no big deal (Tidy Maids provided all their own stuff, and I hated what they used on our hardwood floors).
My company charges 87/hr for 3 person team. How long they take depends on what you have them do.
I have a 5bed, 4.5 bath house, it takes 1.25 hours for them to do a light cleaning. I don't have kids and I am general pretty tidy and my house is pretty much empty at this time since I just moved here last year.
