I am a life long new yorker. I have been wanting to move to NC since I was 19, but just wasn't ready. I am now about to turn 25 and I see that NYC cost of living is just eating my pockets away. I have no children, no relationship, no real ties except my family. But I feel that it could only benefit me to move someplace where I feel I can get my $$ worth. I just would like to hear from anyone who maybe recently relocated or maybe someone who would encourage someone like me to make the move.

We came to Wake County from Pennsylvania 10 years ago, and are a generation older than you.
What tipped the decision-making scales was the concept that one should try something different, put a small adventure into life now and then.
Whether you move to NC, or somewhere else, you are in a great position at a young age to try something different, and if it doesn't work out as hoped, do something different in a few years.
I am about to turn 29 and am married with two children. We were also life long New Yorker's living out on LI in Patchogue and also felt the financial strain that you feel now.
We were very scared and very hesitant about leaving our family, friends, jobs, etc., but we knew if we were to ever move on to owning our own home, we were living in my wife's parent's basement, we would need to get out of NY.
The homes are affordable the taxes are far less than in NY, utilities (about 75% of NY costs), car insurance (less than half), gasoline (about 10-15 cents a gallon), all less than NY.
Water is more and everything else, like groceries and what not are the same.
I say go for it, like Mike said you are young and can afford to try something new.
I'm 25 years old and just moved to Raleigh from NY. I came down here for a simplier life and being able to actually afford something. The nightlife is fun where you can bar hop. It so relieving that you can buy a beer for $3 rather than the $6+ it costs in the city. There is plenty of shopping, resturants and cultural events as well. I'd say go for it! Good luck with your decision.
