My sister and her family are customizing a new home in a sub division in Raleigh. I am curios to know if living in a sub division would be equivalent to living in a Co-op or condo with the difference being these are single homes?

I'm wondering about sub division living...
Could we put up privicy fences?
Could we plant a little garden?

Any information would be helpful

If I were you, I would read, not skim, any restricted covenants before I bought in a sub-division. I live in one and love it, you just have to make sure you understand the "rules" before you buy. You should also find out how much the dues are.

Default and...

if it is within a city limit the city will also have certain building codes etc.

Everything will be pretty much laid out in the HOA covenants. Some are lengthy and can be quite strict, some are short and sweet. And sometimes in the middle,

Their was a thread on this not too long ago with alot of posts. Do a search and see what you find,

Most subdivisons have an HOA. Planting a garden certainly should not be a prloblem. Fences are usually OK, as long as they are in compliance of the HOA standard.

Some older neighborhoods do not have as strict HOAs, and some have no HOA at all.

Our HOA does not allow fences over 4 ft...but you can always use plant screens.

Garden...yes...I can't see that ever being a problem....
