Default Anybody see "Old Fashioned Butter" Orville Redenbacher's microwave popcorn in stores?

I can't seem to find this particular "flavor" anymore. I'm not a huge popcorn eater, but when I want it, this is the only palatable flavor to me (not that I've tried every single brand, though): it's not too strong like some of the others, but not bland either.

When I first arrived here last year I could find it at HT (I think it was), but it disappeared from their shelves. Then I happened upon it at Big Lots and bought many boxes (at $1/box!) on 2 occasions. I went back yesterday and they don't have it anymore either. Bummer. I've been shopping mostly in the Cary area, but will be moving soon and then I'll be shopping in Wake Forest--maybe I'll have better luck over there.

Meanwhile....how is it that when you're out of something, you find yourself craving it even more?

Thanks!

Orville Redenbacher *is* popcorn IMO. No other brand compares. I don't think they make the Old Fashioned Butter anymore because I can't find it either. I've settled for Simply Salted Natural. It's a decent substitute.

I live near Wake Forest, so please let me know if you find any Old Fashioned Butter!!

You might try making your own. Brown bag, Orvilles "kernels" and a pat or two of butter with a few shakes of salt.

I never knew it, but you can make microwave popcorn in any bag. I learned this on the CD Food forums. (Put your bag on a plate though, so the grease does not seep through and nastify your microwave, then just dump it in a bowl.)

Cheap, easy, clean, and best of all, once you figure out the recipe, it will never be discontinued...

I went to their website and didn't see "Old Fashioned Butter" among the products listed, so maybe you're right, Homehuntress, that it's been discontinued. However, I made a query on the website, and they said that I might find it in Angier at an IGA; they also listed one in Clayton. I might call and see. They also suggested I ask a store to make a request of it (heck--I'd have no problem buying a case or two at a time); you'd think they'd know if it'd been discontinued or not, so I'm sort of hopeful.

Funny thing is, I HATED popcorn all my life until about 5 yrs ago. I'd tried giving it up after, when, 3 yrs ago I broke a tooth while eating some, which we refer to as the $2000 bag of popcorn! (the broken tooth had been root-canaled earlier, and it was broken at such a point that it couldn't be capped without a "tooth lengthening" procedure--oral surgery to cut away the gums). I just chew very slowly and deliberately now to avoid those really hard pieces.

Anyway, I just might give your method a go, Bmateo--thanks. Would probably be healthier. I just like the convenience of the ready made bags. Right now, I want some popcorn and I don't have any but that icky "Ultimate Butter" which stinks while it's popping--why couldn't they get rid of that one?
