www.durhampolice.com > CrimeMapper (under DPD links). Click on that you understand the limitations>
choose "Type of Incident" or "Gun Related Crimes". Then check any or all of these:
Arson
Assault
Burglary
Homicide
Larceny
Motor Vehicle Theft
Robbery
Rape

Then choose "Address" and type in the street address of the neighborhood you are interested in and the time frame up to 12 months at a time. Choose that you want to see the incidents within 500 ft to 1/4 mile to 1/2 mile where it says "distance from where crime occurred". It will show a circke with your address approximately in the middle with red dots showing where crimes took place. Next to see the details, click the link below that says "Police Table" that gives the exact date and location of the crime.

It is a great tool to use to make sure you don't fall in love with a nice house in a bad neighborhood and overpay for it because the area looks o.k. or even nice.

I agree it's a useful tool but just looking at the Durham Citywide crime summary figures for each of the report categories was pretty scary

with 414 motor vehicle thefts and 390 Robberies between January and July this year I will be more careful where I park in Durham in future.
