We just don't like Durham all that much. The Woodcroft area is very nice and so is Hope Valley but the apartment complexes charge a lot for what you get...I wonder if we'd like Raleigh better (seems cheaper and you get more for your rent either gas or heat or something!!!)

I think we'd feel more comfortable in either Raleigh or Cary, too.

The complexes I saw in Durham, well, I was really not impressed and they seemed overpriced... The reviews on Apartmentraters were BAD!!!

Do you have to pay over $1,000 a month to live in this area?? (including all the fees and utilities and rental insurance, pet fees..).

I'm going to search the forum, but can anyone recommend a dog friendly apartment complex in a good part of Raleigh...near stores and a library. Maybe throw out a few names for me to google...

Thanks again for all the help...

What size apartment are you looking for? I think that we had a 2 BR/2 BA apartment (1000+ sq ft) with a 1-car detached garage for about $1000/month in Morrisville. This did not include utilities and rental insurance, of course, but it did include pet fees (we have 2 dogs).

Check out the Apartments of Stonehenge. Very safe area, fabulous location in North Raleigh close to Creedmoor Road. Can walk to the nearby shopping, and it's in a wonderful area of very nice homes with well-manicured lawns and huge trees. Nice for long walks.

I rented at the Cottages of Stonehenge which is another place right there off of Creedmoor Road, for a while, and loved it there. They are now privately owned but some are for rent. This part of town is very, very nice. If you're worried about safety, call the police dept. and they'll give you a report for any area.

best,
toodie

In Raleigh:

Falls River Apartments were not hugely expensive - not sure about pet fees though. you did have to pay a water/garbage fee and your own electric, phone, cable. Mom had a 1BR for $659 or so with a yearly lease. Deposit was only $250 I think. Nice workout room, pool, within walking distance of shopping, farmers market, ace hardware, etc.

I noticed a sign for apartments off of Duraleigh across from a shopping plaza where my daughter takes dance - NCDI - it is near Glenwood Ave - I think I saw signs were advertising $550 -- not sure of area to live, but the plaza with the Library in it seems safe enough to be around after dark.
