Smile Where to buy food in bulk??

There were a number of places in WA state where we moved from to buy 20 to 50 pound sacks of flour, oatmeal, farina, sugar, beans, ect. We could also buy large portions of nuts and dried fruits, honey, molasses, oils and large #10 canned food. If we wanted 5 or 10 pound sacks of farina, for instance or a wide varieties of pasta's we could buy those as well.

The shops were not fancy, but bare bones and lists provided so you could call in your order and pick it up.

We are vegetarians and would like the convenience of buying varieties of beans, meals, flours and dried fruits and vegetables, as well as soy products such as tofu and TVP.

If anyone has information about where we can access this kind of service, we are very interested in hearing about it.

There is a store called Yoder's Country Market that's an hour or so north near Yanceyville. Yoder's Country Market

I haven't been to this one (there's another one in Virginia which is charming...we always stop when we travel to VA) but I've heard the drive is gorgeous.

wow.. surely there's one more locally or a place that sells other things and dry goods or canned in bulk. Sometimes back in WA stores that specialized in selling nutritional and medicinal herbs and other supplements, also sold grains, beans, TVP and more in bulk.

Thanks for the link though and information. I've hoping someone else may know of a place in Wake or surrounding counties... like Franklin, Vance and others.

You can buy flour, sugar and canned goods in bulk at Costco. One thing I wish we would start carrying is dried beans. We do sell dried fruits and nuts in bulk.

There is a BJs and Sams Club also but they really don't sell the stuff that you are talking about... they will have cases of canned items but I don't think they have number 10 cans and really large sacks of most things. Check out the Grain Mill in Wake Forrest - http://www.TheGrainMillWF.com I think they sell in bulk - might help you.

Thanks for that Wake Forest link. Also I'd forgotten about Costco. Yoder's looks like a great option. But, I don't see any canned items there.

I wonder if there are stores that supply restaurants, schools, hospitals and such that sell to the public as well. That would be helpful.

I assumed you would know about Costco and Whole Foods. Whole Foods has bins of dried fruit and things. I believe you can also order 50lb bags of grains to be picked up at the store.

I noticed in a previous post that you are in Louisburg and will to travel to Rocky Mount. For canned items, check out Freds Foods off of 301. They have the giant-sized cans of just about everything. They cater to commercial use, but sell to the public. I don't think they are a membership club, but I'm not positive. I know our church would use them for supplies for the Wed. night meals.

For things like rice, nuts, legumes and other vegetarian staples you may want to try an Indian market. We used to buy large bags of brown basmati and a variety of beans and lentils at Around the World Market in Cary for very reasonable prices. You can also find whole grain flour there in very large bags. (There are other Indian markets besides Around the World, we just found them to have the best selection.) If you want other types of rice besides basmati there is an East Asian market in Cary as well. There are also similar stores in the area that sell more Middle Eastern-type ingredients.
