I'm moving to Durham for graduate school in August. I'm coming from California and will have to find an apartment over the internet before I arrive.

Could someone please suggest a few good places to rent for a Duke student. I'd like to be able to ride my bike to West Campus, and be relatively close to some bars, brightleaf square maybe, something fun.

The West Village apartments seem nice, but maybe a little pricey ($800 for a 1BR?). Should I maybe look to rent in a duplex/multiplex home in the Trinity Park area? Thanks for your help!

Chris

Chris I think every grad student at Duke rents at Pinnacle Ridge - you can't ride your bike to West Campus though. Well, maybe you can, but I bet it's a long ride? Check them out though because it might be worth it.

I would ***NOT*** recommend the Belmont as a place to live as a graduate student. It's almost entirely undergrads and has quite the party scene. Bradford Ridge or Poplar Manor just up the street are better options to be 'close' as a grad.

To be honest, the first place I would check out for apartment recommendations would be Student Affairs | Community Housing -- the survey that Duke gets undergrad/grad students to fill out every year and submit back on off-campus housing options.

Also, you might check with Duke GPSC, the Grad. and Prof. Student Council.

Good luck!
