Can someone suggest a more upscale restaurant that not only has ambiance but good food in either the Raleigh, Cary, or Chapel Hill area? We are celebrating our 29th anniversary tomorrow night and would like somewhere special. Can be either American, Italian cuisine. Almost anything except sushi or Indian. My husband doesn't like them much.
Thanks.

I'm not sure if it is upscale enough for you but my wife and I just had an excellent dinner at Humble Pie in downtown Raleigh last weekend - It was out 5 year Anniversary. The food there is excellent and is served Tapas style where you order various different plates and share. If it doesn't suit your needs for this event, I suggest you keep it in mind for a future outing as the food was quite good!

Oven Roasted Mahi Mahi with smoked gouda, potato au gratin, roasted red pepper-caper relish

We love Savoy on Leadmine in N. Raleigh. Great food and ambiance. Intimate setting.

We've also had great food at both Nana's and Magnolia Grill in Durham. Nana's was somewhat intimate and Mag Grill was LOUD!!!

Second Empire in Raleigh is great, but it can be very quiet. Very intimate if that's what you are looking for, however it's quite expensive.

Four Square in Durham in an old house...wonderful! Or parizade on W Main at Erwin Sq. Their shrimp artichoke risotto is my favorite, and their coffee and chocolates for dessert are awesome!

Angus Barn special chef's service in the kitchen or a private room would be the ultimate for this town.

Ruth's chris steakhouse. I have never been but my brother worked there. I have heard it has good food and expect to pay ~$50 a person. There are a couple around the area. I know there is one in cary and one in north hills mall off six forks road in raleigh
