Looking to see if you are having any luck dealing with Air Force Recruiters in the Triangle Area.

Seem to be having problems with the recruiter wanting to get my child processed through MEPS. I am starting to wonder if he is only looking for kids who want to be in career fields that would give him the biggest bonus. Was just curious if anyone else is having these problems.

I think everyone with a child of military age has or has had those problems with recruiters.

I worked for the Navy up until about a year and a half ago. I remember them saying that the Air Force was the most difficult branch of the military to get into. They pretty much had NO problems meeting their quotas, to the point where the recruiters were able to just close the recruiting offices down for days at a time. It's very competitive. I think the Army and Marines were the easiest to join. The Navy had fairly rigorous standards, but the Air Force was the choosiest.
I don't know how the Air Force did things, but the Navy recruiters didn't get bonuses or any monetary rewards based on placing people in certain jobs. They may have been given a quota of a certain number of jobs to place people in, but the outcome for NOT filling these particular jobs were more punitive than anything else.
Good luck to your son!

The Coast Guard is actually the hardest military branch to get into if you take the ASVAB score into account. With the Coast Guard only haing about 40,000 enlisted, it can be very picky and there are lots of recruits that can not pass the swimming/water tests they have in boot camp. The total ASVAB score you need to join the military branches are as follows:
Air Force: 36
Army: 31
Coast Guard: 40
Marine Corps: 32
Navy: 35
I still don't get why your son would have a hard time getting enlisted if he has a HS diploma and some wits about him.

Just remember that the high ASVAB scores get the best jobs. Don't let the recruiters bully you into a particular job or billet. You can always walk away anytime until you take the second oath of enlistment.
Everyone is processed through MEPS for all branches unless something has changed since I processed in there. If you have any further questions send a DM.

Oh. I thought the problem was keeping Air Force recruiters AWAY from your child. With us, they were relentless.

My brother is a recruiter for the Air Force. He tells me all the time where he has to hold on to people and keep them intrested for up to a year (although 6 months is average) because he can't put any more airmen through. The Air Force is the hardest to get into and they have different things they would accept. For instance, they don't take single parents are anyone that can't get close to making weight. The Army and Marines can get around these things.
