Default Pre-Retirement Purchase ??

Looking to relocate in the area in 5-8 years for retirement...property values here are going up faster than in Indiana...does it make sense to purchase condo or other no maintenance property now for some appreciation and then sell this, along with home in Indiana for home once we settle in the area?
If condo/townhome, any ideas on which area? Property could be used for visits with family and/or rented out prior to sale.
Any ideas/thoughts are appreciated.

Scotty,
I'd have to say that houses around here are appreciating well and in 5-8 years they will be significantly more. I work with a lot of investors from other states and there are plenty that buy properties around here just to either rent out (buy and hold) or to rehab. If you'd like to talk more about the options, pm me. I think your plan of buying a rental is a great idea.
