Can anybody provide information on nurses or other professional help available for Post Maternity help at home for the mother and the baby. If anybody has a reference of service providers they used that will also be greatly appreciated.

I don't have a specific recommendation but if you do a search for postpartum doula you'll find several options.

Several of my friends in/near the Triangle use The Birthing Well doula services and love them dearly. the birthing well | doula services in raleigh, durham and chapel hill | home Currently they do pre through post-partum services for mom and baby including labor coaching and a post-partum visit, lactation services and that sort of thing. They also refer out other local mother's helper type services such as housekeeping, nanny services and that sort of thing.

I used Pamela Diamond from First Daze with my twins (now three months old). She was a wonderful post-partum doula. She helped me with the babies and taught me so much - help with breastfeeding, putting them down for naps, swaddling, sleeping longer periods of time, tummy time - everything. Pam also was just a wonderful encouragement for me with my twins, especially in the early days when you wonder if you're doing anything right. Also, every time she visited (which was twice a week), she would make our family dinner (something we could simply pop in the oven and bake at dinnertime) and I would be able to get some absolutely invaluable SLEEP.

Before the twins were born, she came over to the house to meet me. It was a great opportunity to get to know her, be sure that I was comfortable with her, ask her questions about what a post-partum doula does, etc. I would highly recommend contacting her and setting up a time to meet her.

My sister-in-law recently asked me if I could imagine what this would have been like without Pam, and I gave her a resounding "NO!!" I don't know how I would have survived...
