If you can get the make and model of the fireplace, a local shop or the contractor who installed it for the builder can likely give you a quick quote over the phone.

Usually they are just opening a door, putting it in and fastening, and plugging the blower in. I am assuming that there is electrical power to the fireplace box.

I didn't end up doing it, but I briefly considered attempting it. The motor/blower that was spec for my fireplace used to be on Amazon.com...

Yep, still there. Found the same one a little cheaper on eBay as well, and the manufacturer had pdf installation instructions on the web site.

I took the panel off my fireplace and looked, there is an electrical outlet in mine, so I think it would be a fairly simple job. I was worried about the cutout for the control knob - that was illustrated in the directions but I didn't see it anywhere. I thought I'd be looking for a punch-out thing like on a conduit box, but I looked pretty good and came up with nothing.

Then I had the idea maybe I'd go look at a neighbor's house that had the fan installed, but I don't think anyone I asked had the fan either.

Then I just forgot about it. If you do it, let us know how it goes!
