I don't think anyone is taking "delight" in bad news maybe they are just not ignoring it.

I'm so confused about how/why Buffalo came into this thread...but I will add that I live in south central NY state: my county legislature asked every county budget line be reduced by 10%---so that was done with pain and sorrow and budgets were submitted, then they were told that wasn't enough and additional cuts were handed down. That means no library job for LibrarySue this year.

And so, despite the situation in NC, I think I'm coming south next summer in time to put my girls in school. To be supported solely by my ex husband until I can get a job (substitute teaching?) I know, I know, I shouldn't move without a job, but my girls miss their dad AND i can manage my expenses better if I get the equity back out of my house and pay rent instead, AND I am struggling with the logistics of home maintenance and really want to rent. so moving to nC is the lesser of two evils...I think. I will change my mind a million times before June.

Buffalo was on a list as the second-best city to live in.

And no city in the Triangle was listed.

In this case, you might want to take note of those facts -- for economic reasons only.

Substitute teaching doesn't pay well at all here. I would think former teachers would get first dibs on those. My neighbor substitute teaches, but just here and there, and she's been doing it for a very long time.

The reality is that some people have had to MOVE BACK because they haven't been able to get a job. You certainly don't want to do THAT!

Best of luck!

Shuffle off to Buffalo is a song from the old movie Forty Second Street.
Here are a couple of verses:

I'll go home and get my panties
You go home and get your scanties
And away we'll go
Mmm-mmm-mmm
Off we're gonna shuffle
Shuffle off to Buffalo

To Niag'ra in a sleeper
There's no honeymoon that's cheaper
And the train goes slow
Ooh-ooh- ooh
Off, we're gonna shuffle
Shuffle off to Buffalo
