My wife and I are still looking for a retirement spot, and are still considering the Pinehurst - Southern Pines area, alond with the New Bern, and Calabash areas.

I know the Pinehurst - Southern Pines area is big on golf, but not sure what else the area offers.

So, for you retirees who live/have lived in the Pinehurst - Southern Pines area, what is there to do for retirees who don't golf?

Thank you

Whilst I don't live in Pinehurst I do enjoy visiting and love the village charm and how nice it is to just walk about, ending up with something to eat and a Guiness in Foleys Irish pub. . Even as a none gollfer you would enjoy sitting on the veranda of the Pinehurst Golf Clubhouse drinking a cup of coffee watching the amazing views down the 18th fairway. The Village publishes an excellent online newsletter and I have attached the link for you

Of those 3 places, I'd rank Pinehurst last, and Calabash numero uno, but I need water nearby.

Fully understand about the water as we've live by the ocean all our lives. However, the threat of hurricanes and the high cost of hurricane/wind insurance has us rethinking the coast.

We checked out Pinhurst and as non-golfers didn't feel it was the right fit for us.

Seconded! Love doing this but haven't tried Foley's. I'll add it to my list for my trip this fall.

OP -the area is close enough to Raleigh and of course Fayetteville to have plenty of choices of things to do for the day. While i love being near water, I'm not sure which I'd choose...a nice tough decision to have to make!
